Songs and S'mores! ~ June 15, 2015

Morning and midday rain on Monday, June 15, forced us to cancel our noon Park and Read event at Washington Park and jeopardized our 7 PM Songs and S'mores program. Fortunately our local meteorologists were in agreement that the evening would be rain-free!
We spent the first 30 minutes singing some well-known songs (Old MacDonald, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, B-I-N-G-O, etc.) then we gathered around the charcoal grill to roast marshmallows for our s'mores.
My thanks to everyone who came out for our annual Songs and S'mores Night - one of 56 FREE events offered this summer!  I hope you had as much fun as I did!

OmahaGives 2015: A Promotional Video for The Bellevue Library Foundation

On Wednesday, May 20, 2015, the Bellevue Public Library will participate in OmahaGives, a 24-hour fundraising campaign aimed at encouraging philanthropy and offering percent matches for donations made to qualifying nonprofits.  The Bellevue Library Foundation will be soliciting donations which, this year, have been designated for Youth and Young Adult Programming.

The link below will take you to a video that shows some of the programs offered through the Children's Department. Here is the link to the video.  Enjoy!

We have a fun day planned at the library!  We will have a Beatles cover band, a belly dancing performance, a Meet and Greet with some of our Pawsitive Reading dogs, a ROTC drill team demonstration, refreshments, a solo violinist, a beekeeping presentation, and more!
We will also hold a raffle for a number of prize baskets!

I hope our wonderful patrons will consider donating as little as $10 to the Bellevue Library Foundation during OmahaGives on May 20!  (https://www.omahagives24.org/index.php?section=organizations&action=overview&fwID=1315)

The library's books and other materials are the "brains",
the collective knowledge and wisdom of our community,
but our patrons are the heartbeat of the library!

Papa Bear & Me Storytime ~ March 24, 2015

This Papa Bear and Me Storytime was presented at Bellevue Public Library on March 24, 2015.

Papa Bear & Me Storytime is designed to appeal especially to daddies, grandpas and other men in a child's life.  I try to choose stories that 1) are about bears, or 2) have a strong, positive male figure in the story.  While I issue a special invitation for men to accompany their children to this storytime, please know that everyone is welcome to come!
      ~ Mrs. B.

Books:

Nelly Gnu and Daddy Too by Anna Dewdney

Sleep Tight, Little Bear by Britta Teckentrup

Click, Clack, Peep! by Doreen Cronin, illustrated by Betsy Lewin

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr., illustrated by Eric Carle

Each Papa Bear & Me Storytime includes activities that support one or more of the five early literacy practices identified as essential in helping your child develop the skills they need before they can learn to read. The five practices – singing, talking, reading, playing and writing –were developed for Every Child Ready to Read®, an initiative of the Association for Library Services for Children (ALSC) and the Public Library Association (PLA).
