Our first Book BINGO of the summer was held on Tuesday evening, June 5, at Bellevue Public Library.
We had 53 children and adults in attendance!
Our theme for June was "Children's Songs". Look at a sample BINGO sheet from tonight's event and see how many children's song titles you can identify (the answers are given below):
This is a fun game to play, especially for pre- and emerging readers, because it encourages pattern and shape recognition, listening skills, and fine motor skills. As you can see from the videos, once a picture was drawn from the pile, we all sang the song while looking to see if our card had that picture. We played one game until every child had gotten a BINGO, and then, for those who could stay, we played a second game. Playing two games meant children could select two free books to take home. You'll notice a fair amount of chatting during the game. I encourage parents to talk with their children as they search for each picture, perhaps noting a particular color to look for or giving hints as to which row might have the picture they are looking for.

Our second Book BINGO of the summer was held on Tuesday evening, July 3, at Bellevue Public Library.
We had 27 children and adults in attendance!
Our theme for July was "Musical Instruments". Look at a sample BINGO sheet from tonight's event and see how many instruments you can identify (the answers are given below):
Before showing each instrument as it was drawn from the stack, I played a sample of the instrument's sound, using Youtube. After listening to the sound, the children were shown the picture of the instrument and then encouraged to look for it on their card. Instead of calling out "BINGO!" , each child received a mini flute which they could use to let me know of their winning Bingo! It seemed only fitting to play a musical instrument! Each child received at least one free book of their choice. Those who could stay for the second game received an additional free book!
The answers to the sample BINGO card shown above:
