Robots!

This Power Up With Books! Storytime was presented at Bellevue Public Library on Wednesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 12, 2014.

Books:
Hello, Robots by Bob Staake

Rolie Polie Olie by William Joyce

Songs:

Everybody Say Hello!
(tune: "London Bridge")

Everybody say hello, say hello, say hello,
Everybody say hello, hello Wesley!

(Wesley is my turtle puppet who pops out of my apron pocket whenever we sing this song.  Then he sits quietly on his rock and listens to the stories and sings along with us.  At the end of storytime he says goodbye to the children, gives them high fives, eats pretend food from their hands, blows kisses, and plays hide and seek!)

If You're a Robot and You Know It
(tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It")

If you're a robot and you know it
clank your coils (clap hands)
If you're a robot and you know it
clank your coils (clap hands)
If you're a robot and you know it
then your face will surely show it.
If you're a robot and you know it
clank your coils (clap hands)

Additional verses:
...clunk your gears (stomp feet)
...press your buttons ("beep, beep!")

Body Parts

I discovered this song on Youtube and purchased it on iTunes for use during Storytime.

Everybody has a body.
And everybody has body parts.  Body parts.

You have ten fingers.  You have ten toes.
You have two eyes and you have one nose.

You have two arms.  You have two legs.
And you have hair on top of your head. (REFRAIN)

You use your hands to pick things up,
You use your arms to give great big hugs.

You use your legs to run around.
And your feet always touch the ground.  (REFRAIN)

You use your eyes when you're  lookin'
You use your nose to smell what's cooking.

You use your ears to hear this song,
You use your mouth to sing along.   (REFRAIN)

Hey everyone!  I have an idea!
Why don't we all play a game?
Okay, here we go!

Touch your head...
Touch your toes...
Touch your arms...
Touch your nose...
Shake your head...
Wiggle your toes...
Wave your arms...
Wrinkle your nose...

Rhyme:

Open, Shut Them

Open, shut them,

Open, shut them,
Give a little clap, clap, clap!

Open, shut them,
Open, shut them,
Lay them in your lap, lap, lap!

Waving, waving, waving, waving,
High up in the sky, sky, sky.
Wave to me...I'll wave to you.
Now let's all say goodbye, bye, bye.

Mr. Sun

Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun,
Please shine down on me.
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun,
Hiding behind a tree.

These little children are asking you,
To please come out so we can play with you.

Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun,
Please shine down on me.

At the end of Storytime this week I encouraged children and parents to go outside and search for some of the many hidden treasures waiting to be found in nature.  Just as Joe did in What Joe Saw I challenged them to slow down and look for things that others might miss.  To help them in their exploration, each child received a mini magnifying glass to take home with them.

Next week's theme: Weather!

Rhymes:

I Saw a Snake Go By One Day
(© Lois Simmie)

I saw a snake go by one day (make snake motion with arm)
Riding in his Chevrolet (hands on steering wheel)
He was long (extend arms to show "long")
And he was thin (arms show "thin")
And he didn't have a chin. (point to chin)

He had no chin,
But what the heck (shrug)
He had lots and lots and lots of neck! (touch or tickle baby's neck)

Rub-a-Dub-Dub, One Child In a Tub

Rub-a-dub-dub, one child in a tub,
(rub knuckles gently up and down child's chest)
Tell me what you see.
One foot with toes,
(point to parts of child's body)
A hand, a nose,
As clean as they can be!
(rub hands together)

Rub -a-dub-dub, one child in a tub,
(rub knuckles gently up and down child's chest)
Tell me what you see.
Two ears, a cheek,
(point to parts of child's body)
So clean they squeak,
(gently rub child's cheeks)
A chin, a tummy, a knee.
(point to parts of child's body)

Rub -a-dub-dub, one child in a tub,
(rub knuckles gently up and down child's chest)
Tell me what you see.
Legs and arms,
So clean and warm.
Do they have a hug for me?

Two Little Hands Go Clap, Clap, Clap

Two little hands go clap, clap, clap.
Two little hands lay in my lap.
Two little feet go bump, bump, bump.
Two little feet give one big jump.
Two little hands reach oh so high.

Tickle you under there!
