Book:
Hugs & Kisses by Roberta Grobel Intrater
Songs:
Hello, Friends
(tune: "Goodnight, Ladies")
Hello, friends.
Hello, friends.
Hello, friends,
We're glad you came today!
This is a great song to use when introducing the children and parents in the group! After singing it the first time, we repeat it for each child, inserting his or her name in place of "friends".
Come Along and Sing With Me
(tune: "Mary Had a Little Lamb")
Come along and clap with me,
Clap with me, clap with me.
Come along and clap with me
On a (windy, sunny, rainy, etc.) Tuesday (Thursday)
Come along and tap with me...
Come along and stretch with me...
Come along and sway with me...
Activities:
When Cows Get Up in the Morning
(a gentle bouncing rhyme)
When cows get up in the morning,
They always say "good day!"
When cows get up in the morning,
They always say "good day!"
"Moo, moo, moo!",
That's how they say "good day!"
"Moo, moo, moo!",
That's how they say "good day!"
Help your child think of other animals and their respective sounds as you continue this rhyme!
Pizza, Pizza, Pumpernickel
Pizza, pizza, pumpernickel,
My little baby shall have a tickle.
One on the nose,
And one on the toes,
And one on the tummy where the pizza goes!
Good Morning, Toes!
Good morning, toes,
Good morning, toes,
And how are you today?
I trust you had a good night's sleep
And now you're ready to play!
Help your little one identify other parts of his/her body as you continue this rhyme:
Good morning, knees...
Good morning, arms...
Good morning, tummy...
Our Hands Say Goodbye
Our hands say goodbye with a clap, clap, clap.
Our feet say goodbye with a tap, tap, tap.
Clap, clap, clap,
Tap, tap, tap.
We roll our hands around and say... "Let's do it again!"
Our hands say goodbye with a clap, clap, clap.
Our feet say goodbye with a tap, tap, tap.
Clap, clap, clap,
Tap, tap, tap.
We roll our hands around and say... "Goodbye!"
Our activity this week was Musical Instruments!
On Tuesday we met in the Children's Area, due to the Ward 1 City Council elections taking place in the storytime room. Because of this we enjoyed not only making sounds with our musical instruments, but also looking at the books and playing with the puzzles that are kept in that area! Our Thursday group also had a great time experimenting with various instruments to see what sounds they make.
Every Child Ready to Read® recommends exposing your child to music and singing! Singing helps children learn our language through its use of vocabulary and also by way of slowing down the pronunciation of words, so that your child can hear the individual sounds and syllables that make up words. The Bellevue Library has over 300 music CDs available for checkout. Our extensive collection represents a wide range of musical styles, performers, and types of music, such as lullabies, nursery rhymes and songs, seasonal recordings, classic music for kids, movie soundtracks, foreign language-learning, and party favorites!

Library News:
This week we welcomed our new friends Hunter, Atticus, Genevieve, Aubriella and Lily to Baby & Me Storytime!
We also celebrated with Gabe, who turned ONE on October 17th!
Our next Baby and Me Storytime will be October 22 and 24, 2013!
Each Baby & Me Storytime includes activities that support one or more of the five early literacy practices identified as essential in helping your child develop the skills they need before they can learn to read. The five practices – singing, talking, reading, playing and writing –were developed for Every Child Ready to Read®, an initiative of the Association for Library Services for Children (ALSC) and the Public Library Association (PLA).
