Getting to Know...Brian Pinkney and Helen Lester!

On Wednesday, October 9, I had the pleasure of meeting Brian Pinkney and Helen Lester who were signing copies of their books at The Bookworm Bookstore.

Brian Pinkney
Brian Pinkney is the illustrator of many books, including Sleeping Cutie, written by (his wife) Andrea Davis Pinkney, Cendrillon: A Caribbean Cinderella, written by Robert San Souci, and Busy-Busy Little Chick, written by Janice N. Harrington.  He has received a great deal of recognition for his artistic talent, including two Caldecott honors and the Coretta Scott King Award!  Visit Brian's website and click on "FAQ" to see the rather unusual way he creates many of his illustrations!

Helen Lester
I have been a fan of Tacky the Penguin, Wodney Wat, Fluffy the porcupine, and Helen Lester's other lovable characters for years!
To learn more about Helen Lester and her books you can visit her website.

Here are a few photos I took as she was signing books for other eager readers:

Here, Helen Lester is talking about her book Tacky's Christmas and about the CD that accompanies the book.  One of the songs on the CD is performed as a rap!  Brian Pinkney, who was signing books at the same table, got in on the conversation!

One quick photo with Brian Pinkney and Helen Lester and
it was time for me to step aside and let others get
books signed and pictures taken!

It was such a pleasure to meet Brian and Helen!  Having met them makes their books that much more special to me.  I hope you'll stop by the library sometime soon and check out some books by these wonderfully talented folks.
