Book:
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin, Jr., illustrated by Eric Carle
Before we passed out our new "Brown Bear" board books I showed everyone my little sleeping bag:
As I was showing them the sleeping bag, something started to pop out of the top!:
Hmmm, it's brown and furry. What could it be?:
Songs:
Wave Your Bells Up In The Air
(tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It")
Wave your bells up in the air, in the air!
Wave your bells up in the air, in the air!
Wave your bells up in the air,
Oh, wave them way up there!
Wave your bells up in the air, in the air!
Shake your bells up and down, up and down!
Shake your bells up and down, up and down!
Shake your bells up and down,
and shake them all around!
Shake your bells up and down, up and down!
The Baby in the Cradle

The baby in the cradle goes rock-a-rock-a-rock.

Tickle you under there!
(tickle under baby's arm or chin)
Our activity this week was Scarves!
This is a new addition to our set of rotating activities which also includes jigsaw puzzles, musical instruments, bean bags, hand puppets and board books. The adults and babies seemed to enjoy finding fun ways to play with scarves. I saw scarves used as capes, belts, skirts and hats. I saw them thrown up in the air and wadded up into a ball. And, of course, we used them to play peek-a-boo!
Every Child Ready to Read® recommends this type of play as a way to stimulate your baby's brain. Watching scarves get tossed in the air, then seeing them float to the floor helps them start to understand how our world works (yes, they're learning about gravity!)
Library News:
I'm a little behind on welcoming our newest members to Baby & Me Storytime, so here is a couple weeks' worth of new friends!: Rory, Parker, Warren, Samuel, Evelyn, Annabeth and Addysin.
Our next Baby and Me Storytime will be Tuesday, November 12 and Thursday, November 14, 2013!
Each Baby & Me Storytime includes activities that support one or more of the five early literacy practices identified as essential in helping your child develop the skills they need before they can learn to read. The five practices – singing, talking, reading, playing and writing –were developed for Every Child Ready to Read®, an initiative of the Association for Library Services for Children (ALSC) and the Public Library Association (PLA).
