This Little Piggy by Tim Harrington

The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli

Songs:

Good Morning!
(tune: "Frere Jacques")

Good morning! (echo)
How are you? (echo)
I'm so glad to see you! (echo)
Wesley is, too! (echo)

If You're Ready For a Story
(tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It")

If you're ready for a story, take a seat.
If you're ready for a story, take a seat.
Clap your hands and stomp your feet,
Make your hands all nice and neat.
If you're ready for a story, take a seat.

Gonna Shake My Piggies Out
(tune: "Gonna Shake My Sillies Out" - with apologies to Raffi!)

(This song is best enjoyed with your shoes and socks off!)

I'm gonna shake, shake, shake my piggies out,
shake, shake, shake my piggies out,
shake, shake, shake my piggies out,
and wiggle my waggle away!

(You'd better sit down for this verse because, (yep!) we're gonna clap our feet!)

I'm gonna clap, clap, clap my piggies out,
clap, clap, clap my piggies out,
clap, clap, clap my piggies out,
and wiggle my waggle away!

I'm gonna stomp, stomp, stomp my piggies out,
stomp, stomp, stomp my piggies out,
stomp, stomp, stomp my piggies out,
and wiggle my waggle away!

I'm gonna str---etch, str---etch, str---etch my piggies out,
str---etch, str---etch, str---etch my piggies out,
str---etch, str---etch, str---etch my piggies out,
and wiggle my waggle away!

Rhymes:

Open, Shut Them

Open, shut them,
Open, shut them.
Give a little clap, clap, clap!

Open, shut them,
Open, shut them.
Lay them in your lap, lap, lap!

Waving, waving, waving, waving,
High up in the sky, sky, sky.
Wave to me,
I'll wave to you.
Now let's all say goodbye, bye, bye!

Activity:

Today's ECRR Activity Highlight was TALKING!
We played with Concentration Game pieces, wooden beads and laces, and a large floor puzzle.  Parents were encouraged to engage their children in two-way conversations, which is a wonderful way to interact with your child.  It is also an important tool in helping children learn conversation skills and ways to express themselves verbally.  Encouraging your children to converse with you will help them feel that they are loved and that their thoughts, ideas and feelings are valued.

Each Toddler Storytime includes activities that support one or more of the five early literacy practices identified as essential in helping your child develop the skills they need before they can learn to read. The five practices – singing, talking, reading, playing and writing –were developed for Every Child Ready to Read®, an initiative of the Association for Library Services for Children (ALSC) and the Public Library Association (PLA).
